Boy Makes Rare Catch Veteran Fishing Guide Has Never Seen Before

In his 30 years of catching catfish, including 17 years as a fishing guide, Captain Richard Simms has never seen anything like 15-year-old Edwards Tarumianz caught on his boat on Tuesday the Tennessee River.

Tarumianz caught a dazzling all-white catfish with pink fins that Scenic City Fishing Charters’ Facebook post called “fish of a lifetime”.

“You can fish for the cat for the rest of your life and never catch, or even see, another fish like that,” Simms told Tarumianz. “I’ve been catfishing for 30 years…and this is the first albino to come in my boat.”

The Facebook post admitted it wasn’t actually an albino ‘because he doesn’t have pink eye’, adding that it was likely a magpie. Although it may be leucistic. According Field and flowTennessee Wildlife Resources Agency biologists could not verify this one way or the other.

“Either way, we can all agree that this is a terrific and rare catch,” a TWRA spokesperson told Field and Stream.

And that capped off a day of fishing achievement for Tarumianz.

He also caught a smallmouth bass (below), several largemouth bass and a few guys, including one who got tangled with the trolling motor.

“Edwards is one of the most polite young men I’ve ever had in the boat,” Simms said. “And one of the most accomplished 15-year-old anglers I’ve ever known. It was a very special morning, crowned by a catfish like I’ve never seen before – and may never see again!”
